EU and Japan sign LNG cooperation agreement

The EU and Japan have signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) to promote a liquid, flexible and transparent global LNG market, the European Commission announced on Tuesday.

Japan is the world’s largest LNG importer and collectively Japan and the EU countries account for nearly 50% of global LNG demand.

The MOC calls for greater efforts to abolish destination clauses in LNG contracts, among other things.

It was signed by Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko and EU Commissioner for Climate and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete...
