Chinese shale gas output up 77%

China’s shale gas output increased by 76.3% on an annual basis in 2016, to a record 7.89 billion cubic metres, the Ministry of Land and Resources said on Monday.

CBM output was up to 4.49 bcm, while 57.61 bcm of proven geological reserves was added, the ministry noted.

China spent RMB 8.79 billion ($1.30 billion) on shale gas exploration and development last year, while RMB 1.59 billion was spent on CBM.

China had 271 gas fields at the end of 2016, which have produced 1.81 trillion cubic metres...
