Nigeria passes National Gas Policy

Nigeria has passed its National Gas Policy, which the government hopes will open up the gas sector, Reuters has reported.

One of the aspects of the policy is to create an independent energy regulator. Midstream and upstream operations will also be separated.

Nigeria Gas Co. will be split into transport and marketing companies, while wholesale gas pricing will become market-led rather than set by the government.

The policy is one of many initiatives that Nigeria has introduced to try to revitalise the industry.
