Bulgaria’s Bulgartransgas has started talks with State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) on increasing supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Bulgaria, Bulgarian media have reported.

Bulgaria is due to receive 1 billion cubic metres per year of gas from the second stage of the Shah Deniz project from 2020 under a contract signed between Bulgargaz and SOCAR, and it has requested an additional 2 bcm/y.

The gas will enter Bulgaria via the planned Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria, which is estimated to cost €240 million ($270 million).
