An executive order issued by United States President Donald Trump means a methane regulation for drilling on federal and tribal lands will be put on hold until at least 2019.
The US Department of the Interior is reconsidering the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) methane rule, brought in by former President Barack Obama.
The regulation sought to capture a percentage of methane emissions from oil and gas operations – including venting, flaring and leaks – and required energy companies to comply by January 2018.
