Florida’s third major gas pipeline, the $4 billion Sabal Trail and Florida Southeast Connection, is scheduled to start operations this week despite local opposition, according to local news.

The pipeline, which runs from Alabama through southwest Georgia and to Orlando before delivering gas to Florida Power and Light’s Martin County power plant, is part of a Spectra joint venture – the 1,100 km Southeast Market Pipelines Project.

Last week, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved gas deliveries through the Sabal Trail and Florida Southeast Connection.
