The number of rigs targeting gas in the Middle East rose by 4.3% in May from the previous month, to 98, as the rig counts in Pakistan, Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia ticked up, offsetting declines in Egypt and Abu Dhabi.
The United Arab Emirates’ government hopes the number of rigs targeting gas will rise as it tries to drum up interest in its sour gas reserves in a bid to reduce its future reliance on LNG imports.
