Pakistan leads boost in Middle East gas drilling

The number of rigs targeting gas in the Middle East rose by 6.8% in April, led by gains in Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE

The number of rigs targeting gas in the Middle East rose by 6.8% in April from the previous month, to 94, led by gains in Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. 

Pakistan is keen to increase its domestic gas production to meet rising demand, and Poland’s PGNiG announced plans to step up its exploration and production activities in the country earlier this month. However, the low price offered for gas in Pakistan continues to inhibit long-term growth.
