Coal will be king in India for next 30 years

By Staff reporter 16 May 2017

Coal will dominate India’s power mix for the next 30 years, according to a policy document seen by Reuters.

The country is expecting coal to account for 42-48% of its power generation mix in 2047, down from around 58% now.

India is making use of its abundant coal reserves to meet its power demand, but large growth in renewables and gas will eat into coal’s share by 2047.
