United States-based Kosmos Energy announced a third gas discovery offshore Senegal on Monday.

The Yakaar 1 exploration well is estimated to hold around 425 billion cubic metres of gas and adds to Teranga 1 and the Greater Tortue development – two other Kosmos gas discoveries made in Senegalese waters.

Gas from Yakaar 1 combined with that from Teranga could allow a second LNG export plant to be built in Senegal, Kosmos announced in a statement. Gas from Tortue will be used for a first liquefaction...
