Chinese companies are planning to spend $15 billion over the next 15 years developing up to a dozen coal-fired power plants in Pakistan, according to The Business Times.

The work will form part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which will involve Chinese companies spending around $54 billion on Pakistani infrastructure. The projects will provide around 16 GW of new capacity.

Pakistan is facing an energy shortfall and regular blackouts during the summer and winter peaks in demand.
