Commercial and industrial customers on Australia’s east coast are paying as much as or more than Japanese companies for Australian gas, according to The Australian.

Long-term gas prices in Australia’s southern states have risen above A$12/GJ (US$9.52/MMBtu) and as high as A$16/GJ for a one-year contract.

This is higher than the prices paid by Japanese companies and much higher than the A$3-4/GJ Australian customers paid before the country started exporting LNG, according to numbers from EnergyQuest.
