The Bossier and Haynesville formations in the United States Gulf Coast Basin – which extends from the Texas-Mexico border in the west to the Florida Panhandle in the east – contain up to 8.6 trillion cubic metres of undiscovered, technically recoverable gas, according to updated assessments released by the US Geological Survey (USGS) last week.
