China beats energy intensity reduction target

China’s energy intensity – the amount of energy consumed per unit of GDP – fell by 3.8% year on year in the first quarter of 2017, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Monday.

The decline was faster than a 2017 target of at least 3.4% given in a government report released last month.

China’s energy intensity fell by 5.0% last year, according to the report.
