Nigeria reduces gas flaring by 26%

Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. has reduced gas flaring by 26% over the past 10 years, the company announced on Sunday.

Nigeria is one of the worst offenders in terms of gas flaring.

Around 10% of gas produced in the country is flared – a total of around 140 billion cubic metres per year.

The flaring has contributed to tensions over the presence of IOCs in the Niger Delta.

Activist groups claim the flaring is harming living conditions in the Delta region.
