The United States government is considering an application by Eni to explore waters north of Alaska.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management will conduct a 15-day review before subjecting its decision to public comment, after which it will conduct a further 30-day review.
Eni’s exploration well lies in an area where the company previously held a permit and therefore falls outside former US President Barack Obama’s executive order to block new drilling in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas.
