RAK Gas starts first-ever exploration off Zanzibar

By Sophie Gabrielle 16 March 2017

United Arab Emirates-based RAK Gas has started exploration off the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar in collaboration with the local government.

The UK’s Bell Geospace will conduct a survey – the first time Zanzibar’s waters have been explored.

"Some people were mocking us that we will never explore oil and gas [...] let the same people be witnesses today as the work begins," said Seif Ali Iddi, Zanzibar’s second vice president, at an official ceremony.

The survey is being conducted using full-tensor gravity gradiometers.
