CNPC plans to hit 100 bcm of gas production this year

By Staff reporter 13 March 2017

China National Petroleum Corp. plans to increase gas production by 2% year on year in 2017, to 100 billion cubic metres, up from 98 bcm in 2016.

"The subdued target growth for natural gas production may indicate a rising reliance on imports," said China-focused investment research firm NSBO, noting that China’s gas import independence rose to 35% in 2016 from 33% in 2015.

China’s total gas output grew by 1.7% year on year in 2016, to 137 bcm, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
