Shell Chief Executive Ben van Beurden made the case for renewable energy at the CERAWeek conference in Houston on Thursday.
"We have to acknowledge that oil demand will peak, and it could already be in the next decade. It could happen. There are people who believe it will grow forever, but I don’t subscribe to that," he said, acknowledging that government policies such as taxes on carbon emissions are essential to encourage a transition towards clean energy that will take decades to complete.
