Australia facing high energy prices and shortages – utility chief

There is no quick fix for the energy shortages being faced by Australia’s eastern and southern states, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

The paper quoted Catherine Tanna, chief executive of EnergyAustralia, one of the country’s largest utilities, as saying Australia would face a couple of years of high energy prices and shortages because of a lack of gas on the domestic market.

The government is reluctant to impose gas reservation policies and does not want to alter existing LNG export contracts.
