Mexico is seeking to liberalise its gas industry by bringing in new upstream and midstream players, Pemex Chief Executive José Antonio González Anaya told delegates at a conference in Houston on Tuesday.

"We want to even the playing field for anyone that wants to enter our gas network," González Anaya told the audience at CERAWeek by IHS Markit. "Mexico is also moving to energy pricing – including gas – where the prices are correct," he added.

The executive added that attracting large investment in the country’s gas pipeline network and storage capacity would depend on liberalisation. "That investment won’t take place unless the pricing is right," he said.
