Japan and Malaysia were the only two countries in Asia Pacific to import less LNG in 2016 than in 2015. The size of the Japanese market means that even a relatively small decline has a big impact on the region’s total imports. The 2% decline seen last year in Japan was more than double the 800,000 tons of combined growth experienced by Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore.
