Rough storage facility will not reopen until at least 1 July

By Staff reporter 16 February 2017

Rough, the UK’s largest gas storage facility, will be shut for injections until at least 1 July, operator Centrica Storage said on Thursday.

Centrica has been conducting safety tests at the site since March 2015 and decided to shut the facility for further checks in June 2016, ceasing all injection and withdrawal operations.

Rough is able to meet approximately 10% of the UK’s peak demand.

The facility became operational in 1985.
