Eight US congress members have in a letter to President Barack Obama urged him and his administration to take leadership role in the encouragement of continued development and utilisation of domestic gas resources, particularly shale gas.

Dated 27 June, the letter referred to Obama’s speech on 30 March where the president said the US had to take immediate steps to lessen its dependence on foreign energy imports.
