Oman to build 3.2 GW of new gas-fired capacity

Oman Power and Water Procurement Co. (OPWP) plans to sign several deals to build two combined-cycle gas turbine power plants with a total installed capacity of 3.22 GW in Ibri and Sohar, according to the Times of Oman.

Contracts will be signed on 15 May in Muscat with a consortium of Japan’s Mitsui, ACWA Power and Dhofar International Development & Investment Holding Co.

The consortium will build, own and operate the plants and sell power to OPWP under a 15-year purchase agreement.
