China could see the creation of its own gas pricing hub in either Beijing or Shanghai, as gas markets across eastern Asia develop in the coming years, Interfax has learned.

China could see the creation of its own gas pricing hub in either Beijing or Shanghai, as gas markets across eastern Asia develop in the coming years, Interfax has learned.

The new gas pricing index would promote the unification of all energy markets and, in particular, help promote gas price consistency across European and Asian markets, said Yuji Kakimi, director of the fuels department at Japan’s Chubu Electric Power, at the European Autumn Gas Conference on Wednesday.
