Baltics welcome Independence into Lithuanian port

Lithuania welcomed an FSRU at the port town of Klaipeda on Monday, marking the delivery of the Baltic region’s first non-Russian conduit for gas imports.

Lithuanian police boats accompanied the ‘Independence’ as tugboats manoeuvred it into port. The full inauguration ceremony was due to take place on Monday afternoon – with President Dalia Grybauskaite expected to speak.

Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Roivas and Latvian Prime Minister Lamdota Straujuma are also expected to be in attendance.
