China National Corp. for Overseas Economic Cooperation (CCOEC) has agreed to construct three gas-fired power plants in Yemen, providing a much-needed boost in generating capacity for a country with the lowest levels of electricity consumption and connectivity in the Middle East.

Officials from CCOEC and Yemen’s Ministry of Electricy and Energy signed the deal in the capital Sana’a on Sunday, according to a report from Yemen’s state-owned news agency Saba.
