Germany’s month-ahead spreads

Lower prices for gas compared with coal and high prices for carbon allowances – which have hit the profitability of coal-fired power harder than gas-fired generation – have prompted fuel switching in Germany over the first half of 2019, according to company results for the period.

German power giants RWE, EnBW, Uniper and Vattenfall all confirmed switches to gas during the period because of profit margins.
