The key issue: Despite the worsening situation in the Gulf and the US clamping down on its oil exports, Iran expects its gas exports to neighbouring Iraq to continue.

Interfax analysis: Iran’s difficulties in exporting crude oil in the face of the United States’ ‘maximum pressure’ strategy has triggered a tense standoff in the Gulf, which is at odds with the ‘softly-softly’ approach the US has taken towards Iran’s gas exports to Iraq.
