The extension of gas pipeline capacity in the fuel-thirsty northeastern United States has boosted gas-fired power generation in the New England and Middle Atlantic regions. According to the latest Electric Power Monthly report by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), net power generation from gas in the New England region – comprising the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont – increased by 11.6% in April 2019 compared with the same month last year.
