The key issue: South African gas supplier Sasol needs to source more volumes to feed its chemical and synthetic fuel plants at Secunda and is looking seriously at options to develop a pipeline running from Mozambique’s Rovuma Basin.

Sasol is in talks with the African Renaissance Pipeline consortium about how to make the latter’s planned 2,600 km pipeline from the Rovuma Basin to South Africa a reality.

Whether Sasol ultimately takes a stake in the pipeline will depend on the final structure of the deal and...
