Bulgaria’s purchase of two cargoes of LNG from the United States to be delivered via Greece’s Revithoussa terminal shows Sofia’s willingness to expedite access to alternative sources of supply amid delays on dedicated projects such as the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) and the Alexandroupolis FSRU.

On 31 May, Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said Sofia had agreed to buy two US LNG cargoes through Dutch-registered trader Kolmar NL that amounted to 140 million cubic metres (MMcm) of gas. The volumes will originate from Cheniere and BP. The...
