TTF summer-winter spread

The spread between the summer 2019 and winter 2019/2020 gas contracts on the Dutch TTF hub has widened to around €8/MWh, up from around €2/MWh at the beginning of the year. The spread has not been this wide since 2009, according to market observers.

A wider spread between summer and winter prices makes it more economical for storage operators and traders to inject gas into storage now and sell it at a higher price during winter.
