Japan’s few operational nuclear reactors are expected to be shut down from next year as they are behind schedule on works to secure them against terrorist attacks. The Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) has rejected appeals by plant owners to extend the deadlines for the works, and owners will now face the high costs associated with shutting them down.
