The key issue: India is set to introduce Bharat Stage VI vehicle emissions standards from next year, forcing car and truck manufacturers to include more technologies to reduce emissions and pushing up their costs. As a result, companies are looking to fuels such as CNG to save money.

Interfax analysis: The introduction of tighter vehicle emissions standards in India next year could increase the country’s demand for gas as a transport fuel, but a lack of pipeline infrastructure will restrict its wider adoption.
