The key issue: The European Commission recently approved a €5 billion Polish subsidy scheme aimed at supporting modern gas-fired combined-heat-and-power plants.

Interfax analysis: Poland faces an enormous task in phasing out coal from its heating sector, but a revamped national subsidy scheme could help speed up the transition to gas and renewable fuels.
