Average energy consumption in EU member states went up between 2014 and 2017 following a gradual decline between 2007 and 2014, a recent report by the European Commission has confirmed. The increase is slightly too high if the EU is to reach its 20% energy savings target by 2020 compared with a projected ‘business-as-usual’ scenario and could also jeopardise the target of 32.5% by 2030.
