The startup of the United Arab Emirates’ first nuclear power project looks likely to slide into 2020 as a result of a lengthy approval process and repairs to two of the units.

Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp. (ENEC) said this week that it had finished repairs to units 2 and 3 at the 5.6 GW Barakah plant, but the first operating licence has yet to be granted. Until this happens, power sector gas demand is expected to increase amid rapid changes in the UAE's gas supply portfolio.
