The key issue: The European Commission confirmed this week that it is re-evaluating the EU’s Energy Tax Directive, which has not been updated for 16 years.

Interfax analysis: The European Commission is again pushing for reforms to the EU’s Energy Tax Directive – a move that will be watched closely by the gas industry, which has lobbied against higher taxes in the past.  

Miguel Arias Cañete, the EU’s commissioner for climate and energy, labelled the existing directive from 2003 as “absolutely outdated”...
