The key issue: The Philippine Department of Energy has approved the construction of the country’s third LNG terminal, which will be built by First Gen and Tokyo Gas.

Interfax analysis: The government approval granted to First Gen’s proposed LNG terminal in the Philippines has the potential to boost the country’s import capacity to more than 10 mtpa by the middle of the decade. However, there remain risks to the Philippines’ LNG demand from domestic exploration and the expansion of renewable energy over the longer term.
