The key issue: The Indian government announced last week that it would incentivise gas production by liberalising pricing for discoveries where field development plans have yet to be approved.

Interfax analysis: India’s initiative to liberalise gas prices could immediately help unlock more than 30 billion cubic metres of gas considered uneconomic to develop. Along with other upstream reforms, it marks a positive step towards improving the country’s increasingly fragile energy security.
