The key issue: Regulators and gas suppliers in eastern Australia are looking to boost the region’s gas storage capacity, which remains modest.

Interfax analysis: Long considered essential to a mature gas market in Europe and the United States, gas storage capacity remains relatively small in Australia. Just eight small-scale storage facilities operate in eastern Australia’s interconnected gas network, providing some 5.83 billion cubic metres of capacity in a market that consumes nearly 51.61 bcm/y of gas.
