Myanmar is preparing incentives to lure upstream investors as part of a planned bidding round due to be launched during the first quarter of this year.

The government hopes the licensing round will rejuvenate investment and help reverse the trend of waning gas production in the country. Various operators have relinquished their acreage in Myanmar over the past 18 months as a result of tough fiscal terms, disappointing prospectivity, a lack of infrastructure and an undeveloped gas market.
