Rwanda has halted bidding on exploration for oil and gas deposits in Lake Kivu while it completes its own geological survey to establish the merits of partnering with international explorers, The EastAfrican has reported.

The government plans to invite companies back once the process is complete, although no timeframe for this has been given.

Ngali Mining, a local subsidiary associated with Rwanda’s military, has been conducting the survey on behalf of the state since last year.
