At first glance, the rise of electric and hybrid road vehicles appears to condemn gas to a back-seat role in the transport sector, but the emergence of so-called range extender vehicles could change that.

Range extenders are battery-powered vehicles built with an auxiliary power unit – typically a combustion engine – that extends a vehicle’s range when the battery runs out.

If powered by CNG, they could offer the gas industry a slice of the transport sector.
