Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East will remain a threat to the region’s gas and LNG trade in 2018.
United States President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has attracted criticism from friends and foes alike. Washington’s allies – including the UK, France and Saudi Arabia – have condemned the move, while Jordan has called it “legally null”. Tensions are already high in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon, and the announcement led to protests across the region, including in Jordan’s capital Amman.
