Gas demand from the petrochemical sector is rising in some MEA countries as supplies improve.
Iran has the opportunity to revive several of its proposed petrochemical projects as hydrocarbon output from the South Pars acreage rises. Iran has a backlog of petrochemical developments with a total proposed capacity of 38.11 mtpa. The proposed capacity for production of methanol and fertilisers – both of which use methane as a feedstock – is 28.66 mtpa.
