The GCC’s growing gas-to-power demand will drive overall gas consumption in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) in 2017.
The GCC’s gas demand increased by 2.5% on an annual basis in 2016, to 275.1 billion cubic metres. Demand from the power sector increased by 5% on an annual basis in 2016, to 128.4 bcm, and accounted for almost 47% of the region’s overall gas demand that year. GGA forecasts the GCC’s gas-to-power demand will increase by 2.8% on an annual basis in 2017 (see Gas to dominate the GCC’s power sector, 3 April 2017).
