The MEA’s gas demand is expected to rise in 2016 and 2017, keeping the region dependent on imported LNG.
The total gas demand of the key MEA countries – Iran, Egypt, Turkey, Algeria, Nigeria, Yemen, Libya, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members – rose by 3.2% on an annual basis in the first eight months of 2016, to 448.3 billion cubic metres. GGA expects this figure to increase by 3.7% in 2016 as a whole, to 647.3 bcm, and by 3.8% in 2017.
